The classic empanada Galicia is made with chicken, onion and peppers.

Empanada can also be made from seafood, sardines, eels. Empanada is made with flaky dough (It is made by mixing flour, salt, a little fat, and water to form a dough) and often eaten cold. Empanada is also prepared in the form of small individual pies.

In some other countries like Chlie and Argentina. Empanadas are small pastries. They are filled with a mixture of minced (ground) meats, raisins, olives and onions, spiced with peppers, paprika and cumin.

Empanadas are served as hot hors d’oeuvre or snacks or starter, often with glass of wine.

(Empanada look like very similar to Gunjia a Indian sweet delicacy made in the festival of Holi)


  • Cut 500gm beef into small cubes and cook gently in an oil
  • With chopped onions 100gm
  • Diced bell peppers 20gm
  • And a leaf of pimento (tomato)
  • Ground Cumin 1 teaspoon (4gm)
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • When the meat is cooked add 2 tablespoons (28 grams) soaked raisins
  • 1 chopped hard-boiled egg
  • Now, put a layer of this mixture on a piece of pastry and make little pastries.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celcius for 30 minutes
  • And serve very hot.
